PSHCE Overview

Term 2: RSE: Health & Puberty

This term students will explore sexual health and puberty. Focusing on how their bodies will change and positive relationships. Students will learn about healthy routines, influences on health, puberty, unwanted contact, and FGM.

Rights

Those things that one is morally or legally entitled to do or have.

Laws

The law is a system of rules that a society or government develops in order to deal with crime, business agreements, and social relationships. You can also use the law to refer to the people who work in this system.

Students to understand sexual health and puberty.

Students to be educated on RSE and healthy bodies and how to be safe.

Term 1: Transition & Safety

In this unit students will discuss the change in moving into their secondary school. Students will look at friendships, support and the types of things that they can do to settle into secondary School life. Students will focus on responsibility & safety.

Responsibility

Good judgment and the ability to act correctly and make decisions on your own.

Respect

Having regard for the feelings, wishes, or rights of others.

Friendship

A state of mutual trust and support between two people or more people.

Community

A group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.

Diversity

The mixture of races and religions that make up a group of people.

Develop the individual:

Advice and guidance given on how to deal with transition to KS3. Advice and guidance given on healthy living.

Create a supportive community:

Students are taught to respect one another and are asked to reflect upon how we can all work together to create a supportive school community for all involved.

Term 6: Community & Diversity

Students will be encouraged to think about and understanding British Values and develop knowledge of the importance of belonging to a community.

Finance

The management of money.

Career

The job or series of jobs that you do during your working life.

Budgeting

The process of calculating how much money you must earn or save during a particular period of time, and of planning how you will spend it.

Understanding the importance of managing finances. Understanding the importance of researching careers.

Create a supportive community:

Understanding British Values and develop knowledge of the importance of belonging to a community.  

Term 3: Relationships & Families

Students will be encouraged to understand the importance of positive relationships, alongside learning about different types of families and experiences.

Identity

Who a person is, or the qualities of a person or group that make them different from others.

Peer pressure

The strong influence of a group, especially of children, on members of that group to behave as everyone else does.

Values

The principles that help you to decide what is right and wrong, and how to act in various situations.

Students encouraged to develop independence and personal values and opinions.

Students to be encouraged to discuss positive relationships and families.

Term 5: Culture of Mutual Respect

Culture of Mutual Respect  Exploration of how to establish a culture of respect at BKS and to build knowledge of discrimination.

Consent

To agree to do something, or to allow someone to do something. Permission.

Hygiene

The practice or principles of keeping yourself and your environment clean in order to maintain health and prevent disease.

Relationships

The way two or more people are connected, or the way they behave towards each other.

Puberty

The stage in people's lives when they develop from a child into an adult.

Term 4: Careers & Financial decision making

In this term, students will be tackling a range of topics focused on Careers and finances. Looking at a variety of subjects, further education and career options. Students will explore their ambitions and strengths. Students will then learn about financial decision making and how to manage finances responsibly.

Safety

A state in which or a place where you are safe and not in danger or at risk.

Risk

To do something although there is a chance of a bad result.

Healthy eating

Eating a variety of foods that give you the nutrients you need to maintain your health.

It is important to understand your own mental health, how to improve mental health, how to support yourself, know where to get support and develop resiliency.

Create a supportive community:

It is important to learn to explore a variety of career options and how to manage financial decisions responsibly.
