INDUCTION PERIOD
To understand the requirements of the three components at A level and how they relate to each other.
To understand how assessment takes place and what assessment will be undertaken.
To understand the core skills being developed in the qualification:
The ability to recognise and understand the interrelationship between performer, designer and director.
The understanding that texts and extracts studied may represent a range of social, historical and cultural contexts
The ability to analyse and evaluate their work and the work of others.
The ability to understand how performance texts can be interpreted and performed.
THEATRE VISIT AND REVIEW
To reflect on own experience as an audience member and understand the processes and practices used in the production.
COMP 3 SECTION B – ‘THAT FACE’
To understand how to approach the text as a theatre maker.
Discussion to identify key aspects of the text. Workshop to explore the text in practice.
In small groups, students create and perform.
Students will also write a theatre review based on a live piece of theatre seen.
Students will be encouraged to perform during the School’s open event for Yr6 students and their parents.
COMP 3 SECTION B – ‘THAT FACE’
Students focus on a character from the text to bring to life. Group presentations on their interpretation of this character.
Students focus on a design element that they would use to bring an extract from the text to life.
Group presentations on these design elements.
Students to select a monologue/duologue from the text and prepare a performance of this. The focus being a performer and designer.
COMP 1 – DEVISING
The complete study and understanding of a new text. This will act as springboard for students devised work.
Students will also experience weekly workshops based on the style of various practitioners.
Exploring an extract in light of a practitioner. Students develop ideas about how to bring the extract to life using the work of the practitioner and perform the extract to the rest of the class.
Portfolio evidence -
To understand how to build a portfolio of process evidence
To understand how assessment criteria/descriptors apply to your work.
Students will practically perform a monologue/duologue from ‘That Face’ and be asses against the Comp 2 criteria.
An informal presentation of their devised work so far will be expected.
Rehearsal and performance of group piece. Completion of portfolio.
Students understand the analysis and refinement process.
Further research and practical exploration of theatre practitioners may be necessary.
REVISION FOR UCAS EXAM (JUNE)

COMP 3 SECTION A – Live Theatre
Students prepare theatre evaluation notes.
Students write responses to sample questions.
Exam practice.
Students will complete their UCAS exam and be on study leave for two weeks during this term. Students will begin their Year 13 topics starting with the following:
Introducing the complete performance text - SECTION C ‘WOYZECK’
Students to read the complete play text. Discussion to identify key aspects of the text.
Workshop to explore the text in practice
