Another Year of Outstanding A Level Results at Becket Keys

 

Becket Keys Church of England School students and staff are celebrating the school’s best set of A level examination results. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic and a national drop in top grades, the school has seen more students getting As and A*s and more students getting into their first-choice university than in previous years.

There have been many staff on hand today to welcome students, help give out results and advise students about next steps.

The school has students heading off to a wide range of interesting and prestigious destinations. Below are a few notable examples:

• Ella Middleditch achieved two A* grades, one A grade and one B grade in English, History, Music and Spanish. Ella will be studying English at the University of Nottingham.
• Gabriel Savill-Downs achieved one A* grade and two A grades in Psychology, Politics and Religion and Philosophy. Gabriel will be studying a Politics and Philosophy Course at Sheffield University.
• James Benad-Smith achieved two A* grades and one B grade in Mathematics, Physics and Further Mathematics. James will be studying Physics at Queen Mary University of London.
• Evie Turner achieved one A* grade and two A grades in Politics, History and Spanish. Evie will be studying Modern Languages and International Relations at the University of Leicester.
• Dominion Okwuosa achieved one A* grade and two A grades in Spanish, Biology and Chemistry. Her intention is to take a gap year before applying to university.
• Eaas Raham (below) achieved two A* grades and one B grade in Further Mathematics, Mathematics and History. Eaas will also be going to Queen Mary University of London to complete a Pure Mathematics course.

  Other exciting courses that students are choosing to follow include:

  • 3D Game Art at the University of East London (Rachel Allen)
  • Nuclear Engineering at Lancaster University (Henry Bowerfield)
  • Fine Art at Norwich University of the Arts (Jamie Short)
  • Paramedic Science at the University of East Anglia (Maria Gamble)
  • Yacht Design and Production (with Science and Engineering Foundation Year) at Solent University, Southampton (Katya Gonsalves)
• Isabelle Tilbrook, our Head Girl, is going to the University of Northampton to train to be an Occupational Therapist. Luke Benson, our Head Boy, has accepted an apprenticeship with JP Morgan.

  Like Luke, other students are off to complete apprenticeships or follow other interesting routes. For example, Alexander Banfield has accepted a Solicitor Degree Apprenticeship at Ellison’s Solicitors and William Horne has received a scholarship to study Economics in America with the Butler University Men’s Golf programme.

  Mr Scott-Evans said: “I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to all our students on making it through an incredibly tough two years. No one sat GCSEs in 2020 and so this summer’s exams were the first external assessments these students have taken. It is a tremendous achievement, and we are very proud of them.”

  Mrs Downs (Chair of Governors) said: “Our students are much more than a grade or a university place! The resilience they have shown under such conditions is remarkable. They are all exceptional, inspiring and wonderful young people, and we could not be prouder of them.”

  Mr Colin Mackinlay (Russell Education Trust) said: “Congratulations to the 2022 Cohort at Becket Keys. These results represent your excellent character and hard work. They also reflect the outstanding support and teaching you have received at school. We are all very pleased to see you doing so well today.”
